2013 – My Round Up (look away now if this is just one too many round ups!)

OK, I see that I’m falling into a ridiculously popular trend and this is probably of less interest to anyone else than it is to me but I like the idea of a yearly reflection on what’s been going on and how things have changed – particularly in these years with little ones who’s development and personalities move on so rapidly!

So here goes:

Month 7 of maternity! Niece’s birthday celebration – Sleeping Beauty at Sadler’s Wells.

I was pretty ill and not getting much sleep most of February but I did get the chance to go to the cinema for the first time since EJ was born to see Les Miserables with both nieces – sobfest! Very enjoyable

Last month of maternity. EJ 7 months old so lots of fun experimenting with weaning! And also having as much quality time with him as possible. First night out since giving birth! Pizza and a bit of a boogie with one of my best mummy friends.

Took boys to Malden Miniature Railway which always goes down well with JJ! Had fun planning 50s styling for my friend’s hen do.

My lovely friend’s wedding – first time using a paid babysitter! First family BBQ of the year with my sister, brother in law and nieces all over at our house.

My beautiful cousin’s wedding – childfree! Beautiful venue in leafy Surrey, sunshine, champagne and pampering! Started writing my blog (with this post) which has been a most enjoyable enterprise so far and brought me into contact with some lovely new cyber friends!

EJ’s first birthday! Lovely party to celebrate with friends. Climbing all over tanks and armoured vehicles at our town’s annual ‘Army Show’ – sweltering weather!

My birthday which involved a delicious lunch at the beautiful Drummond Arms in Albury where hubster and I had our wedding breakfast and wedding night back in 2010. It also involved a wonderful afternoon tea at the Radisson Blu in Guildford with two of my lovely childfree friends!
August also brought a wonderful family holiday in the Isle of Wight with my mum and dad. Hubster brought my step-daughter along for the last few days and we were able to enjoy some glorious days out on the beach, at Robin Hill Country Park and the Isle of Wight Festival of Steam!

JJ turned 4! Unfortunately I hadn’t been organised enough to arrange a proper party but we were invited along to one of his friend’s parties instead on the day itself and we also had a family lunch to celebrate.

For the hubster’s birthday we treated ourselves to a week away in North Cornwall, staying in a rather lovely holiday cottage in Bude. We all had a whale of a time with days out to Padstow, Tamar Otter Sanctuary, Lappa Valley Railway and everyone’s favourite The Big Sheep!

JJ’s first experience of fireworks at our town’s public event.

Russell Brand at the Hammersmith Apollo; Christmassy get-togethers with many of the kids best friends; lovely family pub lunch at a wonderful venue near my Mum and Dad’s house; a fun afternoon out on the train to the Polka Children’s theatre in Wimbledon with my Mum and the boys to see the show Gorilla based on the picture book by Anthony Browne; seeing JJ getting excited about visiting Santa; looking in the advent calendar each day to see if the elves had brought him & his brother another chocolate; wonderful Christmas Eve and Christmas Day over at my parents house – probably my best Christmas since having children – JJ now able to play some games and EJ chilled enough to entertain himself happily in the background!; fun lunch at Giraffe with my lovely first and second cousins with the boys.

Other notable experiences this year included, in September and October looking at and picking potential schools for JJ to attend next year. We’ll be on tenterhooks come April when we get confirmation of the place allocated!

Writing this post has made me realise that either I’ve done way more in December than in any other month/things must be changing because of EJ’s progress towards his 18 month birthday come Jan 24/I’ve remembered a lot more that’s happened recently since deciding to write this post! Either way I will attempt to log each month of 2014 in a much more thoughtful manner!

And in the meantime, 2014 for me is all about turning around the negatives into positives – I am actively changing my thought processes in an attempt to be a happier, more chilled out person!

Happy New Year to you and yours!

    • Thanks for reading! I just had a look at your blog too for the first time and noted your post ‘so who am I’ from your year’s round up. If its any consolation I would be surprised if any SAHM didn’t feel a bit that way in the first few months with a newborn. You will get your mojo back soon enough!
