This week I have been attempting to work within my limitations. Here are some of them:
- The weather
- A mobile toddler under the age of two
- Time
- Money
- A tendency to procrastinate
- Fear of failure
- A lack of forward momentum…
I have thoughts and plans and ideas – for the blog, for a family holiday, for things to do with JJ in the next few months before he starts big school – but there is always something holding me back.
Of course some limitations are external and there’s nothing you can do about them but some are internal and I need to work on that.
At the other end of the spectrum I have been spending my one day off running myself ragged these past few weeks trying to squeeze 101 things into a few short hours. This week I decided to give myself a break and just put one or two essentials on the To Do list. This made much more sense because, let’s face it, finishing your day with only three things checked off a list of ten feels like a bit of a failure! It also occurred to me that there is no real urgency on many of these tasks and if I concentrate on doing one thing at a time, and doing them well, then I will eventually reap the rewards.
(PS – I have of course finally prioritised booking myself in for a cervical smear and that will be a weight off my mind!).
Oh, I’m glad you’ve booked yourself in for the smear. And it sounds a much more relaxing way to spend your day off by planning and doing it one thing at a time 🙂
That’s what I’m thinking Iona! 🙂
My first thing on any To Do List is “Write a To Do List”…that way I know at least one thing will be ticked off!! #wotw
That’s brilliant! I think maybe we can add ‘get up’ ‘have breakfast’, ‘sit down with a cup of tea’ – oh the possibilities for success are endless!! 🙂
When I got my smear test result I felt better knowing I am okay down there. I am also juggling so many things lately and its a bit overwhelming. I need to learn how to proiritize as well =) #WOTW
Oh good – glad its not just me! 🙂
Very sensible and a far more enjoyable way through life! I have been using the headless chicken scatter gun effect where I do teeny bits off lots of things. As a result it takes ages for anything to get done ha ha. x
I know that technique Andie! I’ll be in the middle of one thing and something else will suddenly come to my attention and I’ll break off the first thing, etc, ad infinitum!!
I love making lists but can get Carried away doing too much all at once! Limiting the amount on your list sounds a good idea x
I think maybe its OK to have one great big list of everything but then chip off little bits for weekly manageable lists. Sorry if that sounds completely convoluted!!
well done for booking a smear, definitely a good idea!,I think you are right in being realistic about what you can achieve in one day. I sometimes try and pretend I’m supermum, but I never succeed and feel worse at the end of it! Much better to set a few tasks you can actually achieve and feel good about! xx #wotw
I know Caroline – I have to get used to the idea that its going to take a loooong time to get everything done! 🙂
I do love a list, but I’m currently failing to tick anything off mine… Clearly I need to prioritise too and write shorter lists 🙂 #WotW
Its gotta be the way forward Sara! 🙂 X
I need lists to survive but then highlight the few things that HAVE to get done and the rest can wait.
Good tactic!
As a list maker I totally get that. Ticking everything off a short list is sooooo much better than ticking nothing off a huge list. Enjoy you time with JJ while you can, they grow up so quick when they start school #WotW
The time is just rushing by so quick Lou and I am a terrible procrastinator – I often miss windows of opportunity – I need a PA !!
Yes, to-do lists can get quite long around here, too, whereas the days where I plan little, always feel happier ones, and often as productive anyway. And pleased you got that smear booked in, too x Thanks for sharing with #WotW
Thanks once again for hosting! X
I can’t live without making lists….I would be lost without them!
Well done on booking your smear…..The joys of being a woman!
Its great fun isn’t it? 😮
I love making lists but do get a bit carried away with them 🙂 Well done booking your test and good luck with it x #WotW
Thank you Sharon – my smear is long overdue and I’ve had abnormal ones and colposcopy before so its really essential.
